Is there any actual argument against this? It seems like nobody should make a career out of politics in general, but more generally incumbent politicians accrue advantages over their term, which in the case of people who have been in the Senate or House for decades, are basically insurmountable for challengers. It would be interesting to conduct a study to see what the effect of incumbency is in Congress races.
